Unlike the sedan range, the XF sports brake is only available with diesel engines. That is, a selection of 163bhp or 190bhp 2.2-liter four-cylinder or a 240bhp 3.0-liter V6. This is not a bad thing, because for British buyers make the most sense diesel. Even the entry-level 163bhp diesel is quite fast, does 0-60mph in just under 10 seconds. The 190bhp version will be the pick because it is much quicker - 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds - and just as economical. Refinement is brilliant throughout the entire product range, and the four-cylinder engines in the enjoyment of a fancy new eight-speed automatic transmission. The handling is agile and - we expect that the XF sports brake can make just as much fun to ride than the sedan.
MPG and operating costs
With a diesel-only lineup, the XF sports brake should be fairly cheap to run. Both the 2.0-liter engines return the same numbers - 52.3mpg and 149g/km CO2. This is good, but not nearly as impressive as the BMW 520d SE Touring, the 57.6mpg and 130g/km claims, resulting in significant savings for both residential and business customers-driver. Other running costs should be comparable with Audi and BMW and Mercedes - not cheap, but okay for the class. As for residual values, should the sport brake my relative rarity, it adheres to its value well.
feasibility
Jaguar has released no official figures, but it says the XF sports brake will be competitive with the Audi A6 Avant and the BMW 5 Series Touring for space. So it is folded around 560 liters of space with the rear seats in place and 1,670 liters with the rear seats flat. This makes it very spacious, in fact - although the Mercedes E-Class model still leads the industry with 695 and 1960 liters. Jaguar is practicality with self-leveling rear suspension to increase to cope with heavy loads. The 60:40 split rear bench seat can be folded down by a pair of levers, while a ski pass-through allows the loading of longer items. What is more, the tailgate features a soft-close hinge electric, optional electrically powered. A pair of rails in the luggage compartment floor can accommodate a range of networks and dividers to stop things rolling. The extended roof gives rear passengers also head room.
Safety and Reliability
The XF sedan received four stars in Euro NCAP crash test - his Audi, BMW and Mercedes rivals have all achieved a maximum five stars. However, with a variety of driver, passenger and side airbags, electronic stability control and a bonnet that pops up in a pedestrian zone to cushion the impact of collision come standard. Options include blind-spot warning, tire pressure monitoring system and a parking aid pack with sensors front and rear cameras, as well as adaptive cruise control.
